A simple website or software project brief
You do not need technical specifications to start. A few clear answers about your business, customers and intended outcome make estimates more realistic.
Start with the outcome
Explain what you sell, who buys and what should happen online. “More installation enquiries” is more useful than “a modern website”. For software, describe the operation and its users.
Show the current situation
Share the existing URL, anonymised example documents and a list of applications. Mention available domain and hosting access. Do not send passwords through the enquiry form.
Separate essential and optional
List what must work at first launch and what can follow. Websites need pages and conversion actions; applications need roles, actions, documents, reporting and integrations.
Agree decisions and acceptance
Who approves structure, copy and design? What budget and deadline exist? Define concrete acceptance examples such as a correctly delivered enquiry or a completed order.
